Women's Rugby in Queensland

There are a range of opportunities for Women to play Rugby Union in Queensland. Club competitions are run in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Central Queensland and each year Queensland Rugby Union sends a Queensland side to the ARU National Championships.

Queensland Women's Squad Trial Information

It is proposed that a trial day be held on Sunday April 18th at Ballymore to select a state squad of up to 30 players that will contest the National Championships in Canberra from June 4-7.

 

It is currently proposed that the day consist of 4 teams playing in a round robin format.

The teams will be:

-         2 Brisbane based teams, selected by the Queensland Women’s Team Coaching staff from the training sessions held in Brisbane (Commencing March 24th at Ballymore).

-         One team from Cairns and District Rugby Union who have indicated they will send a full strength squad to the Trials.

-     The fourth team is to be made up of individuals wishing to tryout for selection in the Queensland State Women’s team who are not already a part of one of the three teams above. Individuals wishing to nominate for this team should complete form at the bottom of the page and return to Michael Cannon by either email (michael.cannon@qru.com.au) or fax (07 3856 6333) by Friday 9th April, 2010.

 

Each match will be 15 minute halves with half time of up to 5 minutes. All matches will be played under senior law. All players wishing to participate in the trials must be currently registered with a club on MyRugbyAdmin.

10:15 – 10:50am

Brisbane Gold v Combined team

 

11am – 11:35am
Cairns vs Brisbane Gold

 

11:40am – 12:30 – Lunch

 

12:30pm – 1:05pm
Combined team v Brisbane Blue

 

1:15pm – 1:50pm
Brisbane Gold vs Brisbane Blue

 

2:00pm – 2:35pm
Combined Team vs Cairns

Training Information

Open training sessions for the Queensland Women’s team will begin on Wednesday the 24th of March at Ballymore and be held weekly up to the day of the selection trials. Training will commence at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm. These training sessions are open for all players to attend.

National Women's Championships

 

The 2010 National Women's Championships will be run in Canberra from Friday June 4 until Monday June 7.

The coaching staff for the 2010 Queensland Women's team is:

 Queensland has a proud tradition of providing players to the National Women's Rugby team.

Six members of the 2009 Queensland Women's team were selected in the national side.

Queensland's representatives are Iliseva Batibasaga, Cheyenne Campbell, Shannon Parry, Tricia Brown, Kelli Donnelly and Se'ei Sa'u.
