Players from the QR Reds are encouraging children like Jack O’Neill to pick up their books during June to read for the 29th MS Readathon.

Jack, from Clayfield, is currently sitting at number one position on the national fundraising ladder for the MS Readathon and is being backed by friends, family and supporters like the Reds to help drive him across the advantage line.

Last year Jack was one of the top five fundraisers in Queensland and this year he's aiming to stay ahead of the other States as well.

Jack’s favourite read at the moment is The Secret Seven series and, of course, Red! Red! Red! The Story of Queensland Rugby.

QR Reds Berrick Barnes, Greg Holmes, James Horwill, Van Humphries, John Roe and Henari Veratau got behind Jack at Ballymore to help promote the readathon and National MS Awareness Week (June 1-7).

They encourage other young Reds fans to register at their schools or local and library, or online at www.msreadathon.org.au with the help of mum or dad.

Each school day, five people are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic, often disabling disease that affects the body’s central nervous system.

Last year 58,000 children across Australia joined in the fun of the MS Readathon to help the 18,000 people living with MS. Funds raised in the MS Readathon assist the MS Society to provide support services for people living with MS. The average age of diagnosis is now 30 years and this disease affects three times as many women as men. Funds from participants also contribute to research as there is currently no cure.
