Bulls v QR Qld Reds

Pretoria
3:10am - 6/5/2007
QR Reds
92 Round 13 3
  FT

The QR Queensland Reds were hit by a Bulls stampede in their final match of the 2007 Investec Super 14 tournament, losing 92-3 to a team that needed a massive score to secure a home semi-final.

The Bulls had to win by at least 75 points to grab second place on the ladder and did so easily, passing the target with 10 minutes left to play and adding another two tries to rub salt into the Reds' wounds.

It was a record losing margin in Super Rugby, which was a sad way for centre Ben Tune to end his 112 game career with the Reds.

The Bulls were dominant in every facet of play except for the lineout, spurred on by a crowd of almost 50,000 at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria.

The Reds opened the scoring with a penalty to Clinton Schifcofske after two minutes. but from then on it was all one way traffic, not helped by the sin-binning of Reds lock James Horwill at the 59 minute mark.

Bulls speedster Bryan Habana did the damage early with two sharply taken tries that set the Bulls up to go to the break with a 38-3 lead.

The Bulls scored a total of 13 tries and their flyhalf Derick Hougaard kicked a personal tally of 25 points, missing only once on the night.

Schifcofske was one of the Reds' best on the night, while rookie flanker AJ Gilbert made his Super 14 debut, coming off the bench as reserve scrumhalf after Will Genia failed to overcome an ankle injury.

Bulls 92 (Bryan Habana 2, Wickus van Heerden 2, Pierre Spies 2, Derick Kuun 2, Pedrie Wannenburg, Gary Botha, Wynand Olivier, Fourie du Preez, Jaco van der Westhuyzen tries, Derick Hougaard 11 con, pen, Morne Steyn con) def QR Queensland Reds 3 (Clinton Schifcofske pen).
