Berrick Barnes

Berrick made his Reds debut in the first Super 14 match of the 2006 season against archrivals, the Waratahs, and immediately announced himself as a player to watch.

While his 2007 season was a struggle at times, as it was for the team as a whole, Berrick's ability to take the ball to the line, his precise passing and his kicking ability had already impressed Wallaby selectors who chose him in the squad of 30 for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, after testing him out with Australia A.

The testing became even tougher in France when Berrick was rushed into the starting side against Wales at 24 hours notice after only making his debut a week earlier against Japan, when he scored two tries off the bench.

He passed that test with flying colours, setting up a try and kicking a drop goal in a performance of impressive maturity.

With Stephen Larkham unfit for selection Berrick also started against Fiji and England, before Australia's campaign was brought to a sudden halt.

During the 2008 Investec Super 14 season Berrick moved along the backline to inside centre, a change that was followed by new Wallaby coach Robbie Deans in selecting his first team for 2008 against Ireland and the squad for the end of season tour.
