James Horwill

The captain of the 2009 QR Reds, James "Big Kev" Horwill first caught everyone's attention in 2006, impressing coaches and fans with his aggression and brute strength. James started the season on the bench but soon forced his way into the starting line up and played every match of the season in his debut year.

James’ impressive debut Super 14 season won him his second tour with the Australian U21 squad, before a call-up for the Wallabies Spring Tour to Europe where he started in all three mid-week games.

Another strong season in 2007 in which he started every match for the Reds led to his inclusion in the Wallaby squad and his Test debut against Fiji in Perth.

James has also represented Queensland at Schoolboy, U-19 and A level.

James was made captain of the Reds for the first time in 2008, in the match against the Force. His controlled aggression and consistent form over the remainder of the season impressed new Wallaby coach Robbie Deans sufficiently to win Test selection against Ireland, which he celebrated with his first test try. A lisfranc injury to the foot delayed his 2009 campaign but he returned for the second half of the S14 season and was selected in the 2009 Wallaby squad.

Away from rugby James is completing a Bachelor of Business.
