Player Bio

St.George Queensland Reds fans can rejoice knowing the maestro George Smith will be back at Ballymore in 2018.

The energizer bunny of Australian Rugby, Smith is like a fine wine, only getting better with age. Remarkably, the 2018 Super Rugby season will be his 19th season of professional Rugby and he has shown little sign of slowing down.

Smith joined the Reds for the 2017 Super Rugby season and the 37-year-old was an invaluable addition. Reds fans marveled at his feats on the field and so too his teammates, who awarded him the Pilecki Medal for Players’ Player.

In his 13 years of playing in Australia, Smith has claimed 13 Players’ Player awards – 10 at the Brumbies, two at the Wallabies and one at the Reds.

He is a man of significant experience and truly one of Australia’s greatest ever players.

Proved his incredible durability, starting at Number 7 in all but one of the Reds’ games. Was brought into the Wallabies camp as a breakdown coach for the June Test series. Reached the impressive milestone of 150 Super Rugby caps. Awarded the Pilecki Medal for Reds Players’ Player.
