Caleb Timu finds himself back on sure footing as he enters the 2018 Super Rugby season off the back of player of the year honours for his contributions to Bond University Queensland Country’s National Rugby Championship title in 2017. The 23-year-old back rower returned to Rugby from the National Rugby League’s Brisbane Broncos in mid 2016, but suffered an immediate setback when a knee injury sidelined him for the better part of a year. He returned to full fitness toward the back end of the 2017 Super Rugby season and asserted his dominance on the NRC as the regular Number 8 for Queensland Country, where his running and offloading game came to the fore. Although signed from league, Timu has a Rugby background, having played at St. Joseph’s Nudgee College and represented the Queensland and Australian Schoolboys sides in 2011. Timu signed with the Broncos after high school, where he played for their under-20s side. He left league in 2014 to undertake a two-year Mormon mission in the South Pacific, returning to the club in late 2015.
