Central Queensland has proven itself as a breeding ground for young Rugby talent with Rockhampton Grammar School and St Brendan’s Yeppoon taking out the U18 and U15 Ballymore Cup titles respectively at Ballymore.
A total of 133 schools from across Queensland participated at the 2012 Ballymore Cup with the two Central Queensland sides excelling across both age brackets.
Rockhampton Grammar piled on 36 points to down Toowoomba’s Downlands College 36-3 in the U18 final while St Brendan’s defeated St Teresa’s Catholic College from the Sunshine Coast 22-10.
The attacking prowess of Rockhampton Grammar School allowed them to take out the U18 division, posting 66 points across the Semi-Final and Final, while St Brendan’s Yeppoon’s used their defence to take out the title, conceding only 13 points across the same matches.
The state-wide Ballymore Cup is Queensland's largest schoolboy rugby competition and gives schools that are new to rugby as well as the best schoolboy teams from regional Queensland the opportunity to play for representative honours.
The Ballymore Cup is a crucial element of Queensland Rugby’s Development pathway, providing schools from regional areas with the chance to compete at a higher level.
