Nigel Ah Wong promoted from Reds College to Extended Playing Squad

St.George Queensland Reds backrower Nigel Ah Wong has been elevated from the Reds College into Queensland Rugby’s Extended Playing Squad for the 2013 Super Rugby season.

The Sunnybank talent has been rewarded for his application as a member of the inaugural Reds College by becoming the fifth member of an EPS which also includes Jarrad Butler, Kevin Davis, Blake Enever and UJ Seuteni.

Ah Wong has been elevated into the position previously filled by Joel Faulkner, who due to other personal commitments was unable to continue fulfilling the full-time requirements of the EPS.

Ah Wong boasts an impressive Rugby resume which includes being a member of the Australian Rugby Union’s National Academy in 2012, while in the same year he was also chosen to represent the Reds in their exhibition match against the Hurricanes on the Sunshine Coast.

2011 was another watershed year for the New Zealand-born talent with the powerful backrower playing an integral role in Sunnybank’s Queensland Premier Rugby Hospital Cup victory.

Ah Wong, who stands at 193cm and weighs 104kg, possess unique physical talents for a player of his size and recently recorded the fastest time over 20-metres across the entire squad.

Ah Wong’s combination of size and speed will allow the Reds to utilise him across a number of positions, including the outside backs and in the backrow.
