Junior Wallabies claim World Rugby U20s Championship semi-final berth

The Junior Wallabies have secured first place in their pool to qualify for the World Rugby U20 Championship semi-finals in Argentina.

Eight Queenslanders have represented the side across their first three fixtures, with backrower Fraser McReight captaining the side.

Fellow St.George Queensland Reds squad members Isaac Lucas and Harry Wilson have starred for the team, alongside developing squad members Michael Wood and Josh Nasser and Queensland Premier Rugby standouts Joe Cotton, Rhys van Nek and Kye Oates.

The side claimed bonus-point wins over Italy and defending Six-Nations champions Ireland in their opening two matches to finish on top of Pool B, a loss against England in their third and final game failing to remove the Australians from top-spot.

The 56-33 defeat to England featured tries from both Lucas and McReight, with Lucas starting and finishing a stunning attacking sequence from deep in his own half, while McReight’s strong running game saw the skipper pierce the English defence and dash 20-metres to score his first try of the tournament.

The Junior Wallabies’ first-place finish sets up a semi-final clash against hosts Argentina on Tuesday June 18, with the match to kick-off at 2:00AM AEST.
