St.George Bank partner with Queensland Women’s XV ahead of 2019 Super W season
The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and St.George Bank today announced an extension of the long standing partnership between the two organisations, with St.George unveiled as the naming rights partner of the Queensland Women’s XV side ahead of the second season of the Super W competition.
The Women’s side will be known as the St.George Queensland Women’s XV, in-line with the men’s team - St.George Queensland Reds – underlining a strong partnership with the QRU that spans over a decade.
Cathy Yuncken, General Manager at St.George Group Business Bank said: “Inclusiveness and diversity is part of St.George Bank’s fabric – we were the first bank in Australia to have a female CEO, so we are of course very proud to join the QRU and invest in the acceleration of Women’s sport across Australia.”
“We hope this extension of support to women in Rugby will inspire many other young women and girls and assist in driving health, wellbeing, leadership and self-esteem for young women in the Queensland community.”
QRU CEO David Hanham said: “As Queensland Rugby’s naming rights partner, we’ve worked closely with St.George for a decade, and as Women’s Rugby continues to grow and develop, to have St.George increase their support is an endorsement of the importance of our Super W program and the hard work of the players, staff, volunteers and the QRU as a whole.”
Queensland Women’s XV head coach Moana Virtue, says St.George’s support is evidence of the growing interest in Women’s Rugby.
“Women’s Rugby is building from strength-to-strength, and corporate investment is a great indication of such growth,” said Virtue.
“The Super W is still in its early stages, with 2019 being only the second season, but with the support of sponsors like St.George, it can continue to grow and attract more women to participate in Rugby.”
The St.George Queensland Women’s XV kick off their 2019 Super W campaign against the Melbourne Rebels Women at Box Hill Rugby Club in Melbourne this Sunday, kick-off at 2:00pm AEST. Next weekend they’ll host the Western Force Women’s side at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon, prior to the St.George Queensland Reds home-game against the Crusaders.
