Bond University Queensland Country side named for Andy Purcell Cup clash with Brisbane City

Bond University Queensland Country head coach Rod Seib has named his side for the team’s Round 5 National Rugby Championship (NRC) all Queensland derby with Brisbane City, which kicks off at 3:00pm at Wests’ Sci-Fleet Stadium on Sunday 30 September, at 3:00pm.

Three changes have been made to the Queensland Country starting XV that ran out against the Western Force last weekend on the Gold Coast.

In the forwards, Easts prop Richie Asiata has been promoted to the starting line-up in what will be his first starting birth since the 2017 NRC grand final, while Harry Wilson will make his starting debut at Number 8.

In the backs, St.George Queensland Reds outside back Chis Feauai-Sautia has been named at outside centre, making his return from a knee injury sustained whilst playing for Souths in Round 12 of Queensland Premier Rugby.

In the reserves, Seib has returned to a five-three split, and welcomes back both lock Rob Puli’uvea and utility back Tom Lucas from injury, while Bond University scrumhalf Harry Nucifora has been called into the match day 23, covering for James Tuttle who will miss the match through injury.

Country head into the match as current holders of the Andy Purcell Cup, having won the trophy for the first time in 2017, defeating City at Noosa Dolphins Rugby Club on the Sunshine Coast.

“This weekend’s match is obviously is a big one on the NRC calendar for both Country and City,” said Seib.

“For Reds and club players alike, they’ll be coming up against their mates so there will be plenty of motivation and feeling heading into the game.

“It’s important for us as a side to stay focused however. While we had a solid start to the season we fell just short of an important win against the Force last Saturday and we need to ensure that we respond and look to improve this weekend.

“We have three regular season games remaining in what is a short campaign and we need to ensure we’re prepared and ready for each remaining challenge.

“Wests is a great venue and the team are looking forward to what is going to be a great afternoon of Rugby in front of the local community at one of Brisbane’s grassroots Rugby grounds.”

The NRC match will be LIVE on Fox Sports Channel 503, kicking off at 3:00pm. Entry to Sci-Fleet Stadium will be free.
