RUGBY UNION: Less than 12 months after leaving school Tate McDermott is certainly making a name for himself in rugby union circles.

The Sunshine Coast Grammar graduate has already represented Australia in rugby sevens and trained with the Queensland Reds but will soon add another representative notch to his belt.

McDermott was named in the Bond University Queensland Country squad last week and is expected to rub shoulders with Super Rugby talents.

"I was pretty shocked by it all,” he said.

The teenager is currently focused on a must-win Queensland Premier Rugby clash as part of the University of Queensland Squad this weekend.
